The Clinical Study Group (CSG) is a multidisciplinary team of academic and NHS doctors, non-clinical researchers, nurse specialists, trainees and patient and public representatives. Its role is two-fold:
• Helps develop research proposals for funding, by
o Focusing ideas and refining the research question
o Facilitating patient and public input
o Overall study design
o Feasibility of recruiting for the study
o Linking up with Clinical Trials Units who can contribute expertise in statistics and
o Sign posting to funding opportunities and NIHR CRN support
o Putting you in touch with other researchers
• Proposes research questions for commissioning
To submit a proposal for support, or to present a research idea to be potentially put forward for commissioning, please submit a request form, available here.
We have developed an electronic database of laparoscopic hysterectomy to be used on a computer, tablet or smart phone. This is currently being piloted. The database records procedure details, complexity and complications. We hope that the database will be a useful tool for BSGE members and help provide quality assurance and inform annual job appraisals and revalidation. In time, as data accumulates, the norms for outcomes stratified by complexity will be established.
Any feedback would be gratefully received at my email address
We also plan to develop similar databases for a suite of common MAS techniques in laparoscopy and hysteroscopy. I have developed an e-database for hysteroscopic sterilization, which will shortly be available. If you are interested in helping develop some of these applications then please contact me on the above email or come and speak to me.
